This small, original work is ready to hang by the coffee machine, above the kitchen sink or in a little sunny corner. Liz is an aspiring picture book author/illustrator who has written YA trade-published fiction and non-fiction, with one CBCA notable. She recently collaborated as illustrator with Aria nominated vocal group Coco’s Lunch, on a video clip for Baba Doo Lullaby. Her most recent YA work as author is This Is Not A Sad Book (but it’s okay to feel sad). Trained as a high school teacher with an MA in Creative writing, Liz has run all-age workshops, volunteered for CanTeen Vic, conducted research on the Out Of Home Care system and Prevention/Recovery Care Services with UniMelb, written for Kids’ Book Review and penned book chapters, academic articles and poemoir. She rejoices in creating bright, funny books for young people which centre equality, inclusion and kindness. Her books have been printed all over the world and have sold close to one million copies. She has published with Penguin Random House New York, Simon & Schuster, Hardie Grant, Scholastic, and many more. As an illustrator, she has worked with the likes of Disney, Google, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation and The Boston Globe. As a writer, her work has appeared in Frankie Magazine, The Guardian, and The Big Issue. In 2022 she received a Varuna Writers Space Fellowship to complete her first middle grade novel ‘Thunderhead’, which was published by Allen & Unwin in 2024. A cheeky book for anyone who’s bought a thingy or whatsit . . . and doesn't quite know why. Illustrator Bio Michael Speechley has been a graphic designer and high school art teacher in WA. His first picture book, The All New Must Have Orange 430, explores themes of consumerism and the environment. It was shortlisted and awarded as an Honour Book in the Children’s Book Council of Australia (CBCA) Children’s Book of the Year Award in 2019, and was the winner of The Wilderness Society’s 2019 Environment Award for Children’s Literature, Picture Books. His second book is The Gift, which was published in September 2019. This book deals with loss, kindness and the joy of giving. It was a Notable Book in the 2020 CBCA Book of the Year Awards, and was shortlisted for the 2019 Western Australian Premier’s Book Awards. Website

6/16/2026 3 Comments LOT 1 LOLA AND ANTON by Katrin Dreiling Description This is the very first concept for the two main characters in my first authored/illustrated picture book A PERFECT PIG, Scholastic 2021. Lola is a fun-loving, easy-going piggie and Anton, the perfectionist, anxious cyclist wants to throw her a surprise birthday party. The characters can represent different dispositions within ourselves - the carefree, spontaneous and the serious, disciplined. Watercolour paper, watercolour, gouaches and coloured pencils. Illustrator Bio Katrin came to Australia for one year in 2004. It turned into the longest year of her life. More than twenty years, three kids and two dogs later she still hasn’t spotted a koala in the wild or thrown a shrimp on the barbie but she does know how to draw a koala - or a shrimp. For over fifteen years, Katrin’s quirky illustrations using various media and different techniques have captivated audiences offline and online for being inimitably childlike, fun and full of detail. Katrin is also one of those people who can’t walk past a puppy without asking if she can pet them. She lives in Brisbane with her husband, three children and two Golden Retrievers plus plenty of goldfish and a wild bush turkey they named Bruno. Everyone in her house loves to cook or eat or both.
